How can you stay in shape as you get older?

As we're getting older, staying in shape gets harder. Some of us find ourselves in our 50s, single, looking for love but completely out of shape. We realize that if we want to be successful dating, we need to give ourselves a kick up the backside and start doing more exercise and eating more healthily. You see all these people on online dating sites that look amazing for their age, and you realize you need to compete if you want to make yourself the best catch possible.

We all know that it's much easier to say you'll do something than actually doing it though. So here at Lovesongs 247, we decided we'd speak to a fitness expert in their 50s, so we sent Eliza from the Dating Show to talk to Aniko about how she stays in shape, dating and looking good when looking for love. If you'd like to listen to Eliza's chat with the lovely Aniko, you can do here.

Or you can read below.

R: Now Aniko is from Hungary. She's a model and also a fitness expert. She's in her 50s and looks amazing. I would! Sorry, I would like to meet her.

E: Calm down Rod, calm down!

R: Now she has a fantastic body.
E: Calm down!

R: She tells us about her approach to food.

E: Have you been stalking her on Facebook?

R: No...

E: How do you know she's got a fantastic body?!

R: Anyway... She tells us about her approach to food and also dieting.

A: If you restrict it too much, then your mind is actually going to focus on the restrictions and you're actually going to be obsessed about eating. If I go out, I eat as normally as possible in a restaurant but I might actually ask the waiter to adjust the meal slightly for me.

E: OK, so you're saying this is much more of a lifestyle rather than a fad diet???

A: With my clients when they ask me about quick fixes, I say there is no such thing! With any fad diet that comes in, my single question to them is "Would you be able to eat like that for the rest of your life?" If the answer, is "Oh no, I wouldn't want to!", I say "don't bother!". Once you stopped that restricted diet, the weight is going to go back on and more. -laughter-?

A: Bad news! E: This is a dating podcast.

A: Ooh yes!?? -laughter- E: I'm going to ask you for a couple of tips. First of all, when you're getting ready for a first date, how long does that take you? A: We were just talking about that because all my friends happen to single.

E: OK...

A: So this is a favourite topic of conversation, and everybody would love that answer! I always say the first date is not a date, it's a meeting. So they're short and sharp - half an hour for a coffee or something like that, maybe a light bite so you can get away quickly if you have to!

E: -laughs-

A: If you like the person, you can always move on or straight away make a second date and that is the date. The first one, you don't want to over prepare because it's probably going to be somewhere - lunchtime, afternoon or early evening - as a meeting. You don't want to come up all dolled up and with your best push-up bras. -laughter-??

A: With your cleavage right by your belly button! That really scares the guys. Go with something special, like a girl next door with a little twist.

E: I have to say - regardless of whatever you've been saying and smiling there, whatever you're doing.

R: I just like the way she said push-up bra. E: -with Hungarian accent- push up bra. R: And belly button.

E: That's Aniko! Her tips really are... That sounds so rude doesn't it!? ?-laughter-?

E: Her dating advice is so good, it's really spot on??

R: Can we get her back next time?

E: We will get her back next time!

R: And can I be here??? -silence-?

E: Only if you're a good boy! This is an excerpt from the January edition of The Dating Show. If you'd like to listen to the full show, you can do here.

Taking the picture picture online.

You've signed up for an online dating site, but you don't have a decent picture of yourself, what do you do? Do you throw on a questionable one in the hope that people will see past it and love your profile? If you're being honest with yourself, you know that in your online quest for love, the first thing you look at is the picture. So, how do you take the perfect profile picture for online dating sites? We thought the best thing to do would be to speak to a photography expert so we sent Rod from The Dating Show to have a chat with Joanna. If you'd like to listen to their chat, you can do here.

Or, if you prefer to read it, you can do below.

J: I think the best thing to do is to try and think about what you want to portray about yourself. What would show your personality or your unique aspects to your personality? So, if you're more of an outdoors person then to take a photograph of yourself outdoors, you could show your interests or just bring your personality to life through the photograph.

R: Is it a good idea to sort of have it straight on, or at an angle???

J: I think it's really frustrating when you're obviously looking to see someone in the photo and it's quite difficult to see them properly so I would say that it's always good to try and show your face pretty clearly.

Also, you know that doesn't have to be a straight on shot looking straight into the camera, because sometimes that can look a bit weird and a little bit like a passport photo, so it's better to ensure you can be seen fully in the photograph but to share yourself in a natural light.

R: And what about lighting, is that important? Do you need to pay attention to that???

J: Lighting is always important in photography. It's probably the most important thing in photography to get the lighting right. Lighting can have some really great effects as well so think about your lighting in terms of making sure you're not very illuminated by light. It can look a bit weird like a passport photography which is a very flat light, but you use lighting to help invoke a mood in photography. Perhaps think about lighting coming from a side angle or lighting coming from, if you imagine a clock face, lighting coming from about 1 o'clock rather than lighting from straight on. Definitely try to avoid shooting directly into the light because that doesn't always create a great photograph.

R: And what about black and white? Would that be a good idea? It's quite arty.

J: Yeah, I think so, black and white photography is very trendy and it has a reportage feel to it. Black and white photography is quite good and getting clarity for an image, so again if you're trying to convey yourself and to show yourself clearly then black and white photography is good. It's not always to take black and white photograph though, so perhaps you could take your photograph in full colour and then there are loads of Photoshop style programmes and programmes on iPad apps and things like that. You could then change your photograph to black and white and just sort of play around a bit really.

R: They say the camera never lies. Is that true???

J: That's not true at all, you can use so many tricks with an image now. You know from all the things you can use, you can fundamentally change a photograph quite easily and you can make fake photographs very easily. I'm afraid that isn't a true statement at all. Obviously photography is a great way of showing you and your personality and I think just try and get across who you are in the photograph. That will always be to your advantage.

When's the busiest time for online dating sites?

Have you ever wondered when dating websites are at their busiest? You won't be surprised to learn that it's after Christmas. It's times like the festive period when you realise that you'd like to have love ones around. Here at Lovesongs 247, we imagine that New Year's Resolutions also play a big part in contributing to this surge in traffic for dating websites as people try to fulfil their resolution of finding love and why not? We thought we needed to find out how much this increase was, and what effects it had on online dating sites, so we send Rod from The Dating

Show to have a quick chat with David Cliff, who runs Older Dating Online. If you'd like to listen to their chat, you can click here.

Or if you prefer to read it, their conversation is below.

R: One in five relationships now starts online, and it contributes almost 3.4 billion pounds annually to the UK economy.

David Cliff runs OlderDatingOnline.com. He says dating online is more socially acceptable now than it ever has been.

-music-

D: I think people are looking for a new start for the New Year, which includes new relationships.

R: And what sort of an increase do you actually see?

D: Around 350% increase from Boxing Day to New Year and January itself remains very busy as well.

R: Now many of your sites are aimed at older people, why is that?

D: Well as I was already over 50 when I started in the online dating business, I recognised the need for sites targeting people of my own age.

R: One in five people now find love online, that's 20%. Any stigma that was attached to online dating that used to be around has surely gone now.

D: It has, there was a certain stigma attached to it, especially with older people years ago, but I don't there's any stigma there at all now.

-music-

R: That's David Cliff from OlderDatingOnline.com. This is an excerpt from January's Dating Show podcast. If you'd like to listen to the rest of the podcast, you can here.
